According to Sternberg, a person can experience eight general types of love. In the following table, a type of love as identified by Sternberg is in the left column. In the center column, write the combination of components that type of love demonstrates (intimacy, passion, or commitment). In the right column, fill in the characteristics for the corresponding type of love.

Type of Love | Components | Characteristics |

Non Love | All three components of love are absent. | A relationship in which all three components of love are absent.Most of our personal relationships are of this type—casual interactions or acquaintances that do not involve any elements of love. |

Liking | Intimacy alone. Passion and commitment are lacking. | A loving experience with another person or a friendship in whichintimacy is present but passion and commitment are lacking. |

Infatuation | Passion alone. Obsessive love at the first site without intimacy or commitment. | A kind of “love at first sight” in which one experiences passionatedesires for another person in the absence of both intimacy andcommitment. |

Empty Love | Commitment alone. Commitment remains together without passion or intimacy. | A kind of love characterized by commitment to maintain therelationship in the absence of either passion or intimacy. Stagnant relationships that no longer involve the emotional intimacy or physical attraction that once characterized them are of this type. |

Romantic Love | Intimacy and passion. Commitment is lacking. | A loving experience characterized by the combination of passionand intimacy, but lacking commitment. |

Companionate Love | Intimacy and commitment are present. Passion is lacking. | A kind of love that derives from the combination of intimacy andcommitment. This kind of love often occurs in marriages inwhich passionate attraction between the partners has died down and has been replaced by a kind of committed friendship. |...
