Turn an Illegal Taboo into a Legitimate Business

Some people know prostitution as the world’s oldest profession. Since the beginning of time, there have been individuals who have paid for sex with money, goods, or with services exchanged. Prostitution has been societies’ dirty little secret for centuries. The show How Sex Changed the World stated:

During the middle ages, the Roman Catholic Church owned and operated brothels. Even though they believed it was wrong and that all sexual activity outside of marriage was sinful; they still saw it as a necessary evil. They thought prostitution reduced rape, sodomy, and masturbation among the people. The money was going into the church, which allowed them to license brothels (Sex for Sale).

Prostitution helped the Roman Catholic Church finically and it could be helpful once more, if it were legalized. Many are aware it happens, but no one wants to discuss it. As long as they ignore it, it does not exist. People, who believe it is a manipulative and immoral profession, do not want it to be legalized. A few do see it as a lucrative business, waiting to be explored and expanded. Some make a good argument that legalizing prostitution would help solve or lessen some of this country’s current issues. Certainly, legalizing prostitution would lead to a better society as a whole.

First of all, even though prostitution is illegal, thousands of sex workers and their clients are arrested for the act every day. Nowadays finding sex for sale is extremely easy. Escorts offer their services online on sites like Craigslist. Even innocent looking massage parlors are sometimes used as a facade for prostitution. Keep in mind that not all massage parlors are secret brothels; and some patrons are not aware illegal acts are sometimes being performed.
