Fad Diet: Raw Diet

The raw diet is very similar to a vegan diet, if not the same. During my research, I read that this diet will give you energy. You can also easily lose weight. As you could have guessed, you can only eat raw foods. That means fruits, vegetables, nut and seeds. Some raw eaters also eat seafood, uncooked of course. It is believed that heating and cooking food kills the nutrients and natural enzymes (webmd). It is said that eating raw can help with headaches, memory, immune health and can help with arthritis. Raw food is very high in vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and fiber. There is no set calorie amount for the raw diet. But you do have to eat LOTS and LOTS of food. This may be problem with the diet. Since the caloric value in fruits and vegetables are low, you will have to either eat constantly or eat a lot in one setting. People may think that they can eat a couple servings of fruit in vegetables for lunch. “Since it’s a diet, I shouldn’t eat a lot.” NO! It shouldn’t be a diet; it should be a life style choice. You can’t just eat a few peaches; you have to eat more like fifteen peaches. But it is great for your body. It keeps all of the preservatives out of your system. It is very hard to keep going. Eating only raw foods is difficult for most people to fully commit to. Also, it can be pricy. I think that junk food has become such a big part of our community because it is so much more affordable than fresh produce. You can get a fast food hamburger for one dollar, but the salad for five. So getting people to splurge on more expensive food proves to be difficult. The dieter also needs to make sure they are getting enough protein and calcium in there daily diet.
