Riordan Manufacturing COO Hugh McCauley has contacted Smith Services Consulting Inc., to integrate the different human resource tools that the human resources department is currently using into a more sophisticated, state of the art information system application. Smith Service Consulting Inc. expects to accomplish breaking the request into three separate areas. The first will be defining the key stakeholders and the key factors that verify that the data is collected correctly. The second is project scope and the importance of following the scope. The final point is to describe the areas of feasibility that are examined in the analysis phase of the software development life cycle (SDLC).

Stakeholders

Riordan Manufacturing has many stakeholders. Most of its stakeholders are influential in the change process and in giving the main focus to those who are going to be using the new system directly. The stakeholders who are influential are Chief Operations Officer, Hugh McCauley, the Director of Human Resources, Yvonne McMillan, her Human Resources Managers that report to Yvonne, managers of the other departments, company recruiters, information technology department and finally the employees themselves.

The COO’s responsibility is to make sure that all work is being done correctly on a day to day basis (chief-operating-officer.com, 2010). Because of his role in the company, Hugh McCauley has determined that the Human Resources department be updated and has requested that all individual tools and the data being stored by those individual managers and recruiters be combined into one application.

Information Gathering Techniques

Gathering information for new information systems is part of the second step in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). During the information gathering you want to remember a few things:
