Terminology to focus on: Oral tradition Chants Myths Metaphor Simile Lesson 1: Students need to have a history of Native Americans and the history of the country in order to appreciate the literature. One option in relaying the information is to assign the students to read in class pages 3-18. Hand out a reading guide to aid the students. (Appendix I) Another option is to lecture using an overhead transparency to convey the information to the students. (Appendix II) Lesson 2: The teacher will instruct a lesson on the differences between summarizing and plagiarism. Topic sentences and paragraphs should be reviewed.
