My Trip in the Right Femoral Vein

This is Donna Small and I am piloting the Right Femoral Vein Express today. Our mission is to make our way from the right femoral vein to the lower lobe of the right lung, and then to exit the body through the nose. Apparently our patient has some bacterium in the right lung lower lobe we need to identify and possibly treat. I am going to take this experience and make it into a field trip for all of you and explain how I get to the lower lobe of the right lung by following the right femoral vein.

My trip begins with me acquiring and boarding the Right Femoral Vein Express. We are being put into the shrinking machine to be shrunk down to 8 microns long. Then we will be put into a needle and injected into or around the right femoral vein. The right femoral vein is located in the upper thigh of the right leg near the pelvic region. (http://www.healthline.com/human-body-maps/femoral-vein) After being injected into the right femoral vein we will travel upward toward a space called the bifurcation, which is where the right femoral and left femoral vein meets to form the inferior vena cava. When we are in the inferior vena cava we are met with some resistance as it is difficult to travel against gravity. I have given the instructions to the crew, to set the engines at full speed so it will not be too hard to get through. I also want to point out that if we should fall back a little that the valves in the veins are here to catch us. So no worries! I am starting to hear something. Are you all hearing it too? We must be getting close to the heart. I am so excited, the beating is getting louder and louder. Well folks take a look out your window and you will see we have made it to the heart. We are entering the right atrium, now everyone hold on to your stomachs, we are going through the tricuspid valve into the right...
