Nanda Home: Preparing for Life after Clocky

1. How do you explain Clocky’s success pre and post its launch in late 2006?

What is your explanation for why sales have slowed in recent years?

Clocky’s was very successful in Nanda’s first year with Clocky because it showed something unique compared to other alarm clocks. It did many unique things to help its customers, in which it provides positive feedback in medical problems, helps in wake-up difficulties, psychological problems, and its physical design. Its physical design is what gives its uniqueness because it has wheels and doesn’t look like any other alarm clock. Clocky’s design comes in many different colors, so they can expand into different customer segments. Clocky solves many medical problems, for example, it lessens the risk for obesity, learning disabilities, and other psychological problems. Clocky makes its consumers get out of their bed and click the button to stop Clocky. By making people get out of bed earlier than usual; this gives the potential for the people to feel more rested for the day. With Clocky’s unique design, it provided more sales during the pre-phase of the launch. Since Clocky is solving many wake-up difficulties and psychological problems, this means it’s getting positive feedback during the post-phase of the launch.

Some explanations of why Clocky’s sales are down from recent sales are because of the distribution challenge for Clocky. Nanda decided most of her Clocky’s were going to come directly from Nanda’s Home website and Home Shopping Network. The distribution to the retailers weren’t the main problem, but selling Clocky was an issue. Retailers weren’t making enough profit off of Clocky, so they sold the Clocky’s back to Nanda. This created a problem for Nanda because she couldn’t be consistent at keeping her product at retail stores. Since, Nanda is doing most of the business by herself without any professional marketer, and this causes it to be more difficult for her....
