Ethernet or Token Ring

Ethernet and Token Ring are two different network types that an organization can look at when deciding on what type of network to use. Saguaro Federal has mainframes for all of its banks and businesses. When deciding on which network to use, I would recommend using Ethernet because today it is the most common network technology that we use with local area networks. Ethernet networks can carry data up to 10 megabits per second, and with Fast Ethernet, speeds up to 1000Mbps. With Token Ring you can send up to 16Mbps. Ethernet networks when in comparison with token ring networks are much cheaper than token ring, so if a company is worried about cost upfront, then it will be better to go with Ethernet because the price for token ring can be very expensive. The protocols use for Ethernet is a protocol that is familiar known as Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol. When looking at token ring, which was developed by IBM, token ring uses a token ring network nodes, which are ring stations are connected to wiring device called a Multi Station Access Unit, which are connected to the ring stations and data is passed from ring station to ring station. Depending on the company, it is not a must that they use either token ring or Ethernet, due to the available technologies that we have out today, there are bridging techniques that can be applied to where both networks Ethernet and Token Ring can work together.

I do not think that XYX Technology Consultants must only have one or the other when it comes to choosing between Token Ring and Ethernet, I think that after looking at the requirements of the organization and funds that are available will help be the deciding factor on what would be the best network to use.
