Real Estate Investment Seminar

I have been an investor in the residential real estate market for several years. Like all practitioner real estate investors, acquiring updated information and training is paramount to survival in these shark-infested waters. The field I have shown the most interest in is the multi-unit properties. Most buyers of 2-4 units are investors looking to generate rental income. As a result of the housing market collapse, the percentage of renter-occupied households has risen significantly both in the city of Chicago and the suburbs. Due to my extensive knowledge, it is very hard to cover information that I haven’t personally experienced or researched. As a plus one of an invite to Notre Dame Real Estate Investment Seminar, I attended reluctantly.

The speaker Jim Frediman was one of very few real estate lecturers that held my attention throughout the seminar. Jim has been investing in the Chicagoland area since the 90’s, and a realtor with @properties in the Lincoln Park area since the early 2000’s. Jim was upbeat, warm, and engaging. The seminar was held in the Lincoln Park/Wrigleyville neighborhood at 952 west Addison Street. The environment was a place where he felt at home in, almost as if he was hosting.

During my years of investing, purchases have been cash closings opposed to bank financing. The speakers’ expertise came through his lecture very fluid and poised. He explained that the lower prices in the residential market have come as a result of the foreclosure crisis make this a great time to buy. There are also many current investors looking to sell. Some investors like myself were able to use cash to purchase, which increases the amount of net monthly cash flow if I decided to rent. He covered that many of these buildings will have some level of renovation needed, but there are also renovation loan products available to help.
