Thesis Statement

Are there dangers in the emerging church? The topic of this paper continues to be a question asked on a regular basis, via blogs, online journals, and in published books. This paper will discuss the dangers in the emerging church. The writer will define the emerging church and discuss how its belief system is based on changes in culture; the dangers in their viewpoint of scripture as a narrative, the danger in their lack of doctrine, and the danger of other beliefs that are not biblically based. The unity of the Spirit as written by Paul in the book of Ephesians,

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.

The Emerging church has received some of the harshest criticism over the years due to the lack of doctrine coupled with the denial of biblical scripture. Over the years Christian based organizations have discussed the Emerging Church’s lack of true direction to Jesus with extreme controversy. As Christians, publishing an awareness of the Emerging church and its implications is a must. John 14:6 says Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The writers study for this paper will include a working thesis where the writer seeks to answer the question of are there dangers in the Emerging church. Subtopics will include the definition of the Emerging church, the belief system as described by the Emerging church, and finally the dangers associated with the Emerging church.
