1 Executive Summary

This report investigates the consultation process involved in the implementation of OHS recommendations in the Building and Construction Industry.

It reviews the risks and hazards inherent in the industry and the organisational roles, responsibilities and considerations toward the consultation process.

The report considers:

• Barriers to communication

• Legislative requirements

• Any relevant issue resolution procedure

• Knowledge of the legal framework within the organisation

The Construction Industry is an inherently high risk industry with a high incidence of LTI/D and fatalities. While recent data suggests that Occupational health and Safety in the industry is improving, the construction industry is still seen as being unable to provide a safe and healthy environment for its contractors and other stakeholders, with the industries national incidence rates remaining at nearly twice the All Industries average.
