Quality Care

Quality patient care has always been a concern for me. Delivery of care a patient receives depends on several factors. First, it has been challenging making the health field appealing to young residents. This reduces the availability of qualified candidates. Secondly, we have several health care facilities that are struggling with issues due to the economy. Finally, we have an abundance of avoidable malpractice suits. The quality of patient care suffers due to low pay, under-staffing, and the high cost of malpractice insurance.

Low pay and terrible benefits along with substandard equipment will create an environment that will have a large turnover in staff. Problems with low pay and poor benefits will not allow staff to give consistent care due to lack of knowledge regarding their patient. Long term employees will be more familiar with patient needs. Today’s social networking will promote good ratings of a facility if employees feel payment for their services are adequate, and facilities are update with technology. This provides positive feedback, and good marketing skills. The government has specific legal duties, to protect and advance the interests of society to include quality health care among patients. When introducing new technologies in health, it should be evaluated on structure, function, and cost. The goal should always include an abundance of use, and be outstanding to any and all existing treatments that are currently available. (Herdon, Hwang, Bozic, & Spine, 2007).

Everyone is entitled to quality patient care regardless of underlying circumstances. We need to stay competitive to ensure the quality of care the patient deserves. Nurses, particularly the aging nurses, currently suffer from high levels of fatigue due to longer shifts. These shifts have changed from eight hours to twelve hours.
