The businesses I chose to research for this paper is IBM, AirMethods Medical Transport, and the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). Each of these businesses appeals to me for different reasons. IBM is one of the worlds’ largest information technology corporations in the world with operations in the U.S., India, and China. AirMethods is one of the nations’ largest providers of air medical transportation. The Union Pacific Railroad is one of the United States’ premiere railroad franchises and transportation companies. These businesses are all very different in what they do, and each offers something I am looking for in employment.

My five most important criteria for any employer are job stability, a good benefits package, advancement opportunities, a solid salary with good potential for raises, and good management. As I looked at each of these businesses and researched their website I ranked, on paper, each of the criteria points with a ranking system of one through five. (Five being the best) I also listed out the pros and cons of each business side by side. I took the results and came up with which business would statistically be the most appealing. I then reviewed each businesses Mission Statement, and policies on family to finalize my decision.

IBM was the first business I researched. It scored at 15 on my rating scale with the highest marks being in advancement possibilities and benefits. IBM offers a competitive salary with the possibility of earning bonus’ and commission. The caveat to the bonuses is that you must qualify for them. They are not across the board bonuses for every employee. If you are working in a field that doesn’t qualify, this is not a guarantee. IBM also offers a decent benefits package with health, vision, and dental insurance. They offer choices for coverage so the employee can decide...
