Cell Phone Banned in Restaurants

When cell phones first came out there were very few of them and they were the size of a briefcase so people didn’t really take them into restaurants and such. Nowadays though everyone has a cell phone and since they are small enough to fit in your pocket people take them everywhere. You see cell phones everywhere like restaurants, stores, in cars, and at the gym, just to name a few examples. One thing that I am a firm believer in is that there should be a ban on cell phones in restaurants. This happens to be one of my biggest pet peeves; people talking on their cell phones while in restaurants.

I want to believe that most people would agree with me that it is just rude to be having a conversation, while on their cell phone, in a restaurant. I mean, who wants to go sit in a restaurant and try to have a nice quiet meal when the person in the booth behind is talking really loud. Me personally, I don’t want people to overhear the conversation that I might be having with my doctor or such. Would you want to hear me talking to my doctor about my hemorrhoids while you are eating your dinner? Yes, this has happened to me. I actually had the waiter move me tables just so my family and I didn’t have to hear the other person’s conversation any longer. It is not only annoying to the customers in the restaurant, but imagine how the employees feel.

From a waiter/waitress standpoint it has to be even more frustrating. Imagine this, the place is packed and people are waiting outside for a table. As a waiter part of your money is made on tips, which relates to how many tables you can serve in a night. You walk up to your table and the customer is on their cell phone. You stand at the table for about 15 seconds and they just keep on talking and talking and talking. Then when you try to politely interrupt the put their finger up and tell you to hold on. You wait a few more seconds and try to get their attention...
