You are required to go to Youtube and look for ONE (1) Petronas TV commercial (TVC) and another local TVC from any companies. Briefly introduce each of the TVC and discuss the possible advertising objective, intended message (hidden), message strategy (appeals), and critically critique its pros and cons.

This Petronas TV commercial narrates about a man who vended Tau Fu Fah and a girl who both met over a bowl of ‘tau fu fah’ and finally got married. Every Chinese New Year, they always stuck a paper written “FU” (Good fortune) inversely, which is trusted good fortune will fall from the sky if it is stuck inversely. Through the years, they slowly built up their business and grew their family, eventually earning enough to open a tau fu fah shop until one day fire made everything disappear. Nevertheless, they persevere and finally got back on track Expressing their gratefulness for their life together, the film ends up on a sweet note with the husband replacing the “fu” word on his old bicycle cart’s “tau fu fah” sign with a Chinese New Year “fu” sign.

The objective of this TV commercial is to show the hardworking people who never despise others despite the success they have now. In fact, people live in togetherness as a one whole family where each can support or help each other. Most of the people keep on strive for the best and not wanting to give up. Moreover, this commercial which related to the CNY also shown that CNY has always been a time of renewal and hope for many of us where we look back, take stock, and look ahead for an even greater life.
