What is business research? In general, business research refers to any type of researching done when starting or running any kind of business. Research to me is a simple form of investigating several topics to gain the advantage over someone or find information about some. It is a process of planning, acquiring, analyzing, and disseminating relevant data, information, and insights to decision makers in ways that mobilize the organization to take appropriate actions that in turn, maximize performance (Copper & Schindler, 2011).

Why should there be any question about the definition of research? There should be question about research because of the difference in the person conducting the research. Some people are more in depth about the type of research they are conducting. Also, there is a difference in the interest of the research.

What is the difference between applied research and basic or pure research? Use a decision about how a sales person is to be paid, by commission or salary and describe the question that would guide applied research versus the question that would guide pure research? Applied research refers to work carried out in engineering departments, including materials science and chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Generally speaking, basic research deepens and expands scientific understanding, while applied research focuses on utility. This almost explains the questioning about the definition of research. On the decision of the sales person accepting to be paid on salary or commission would be a difficult decision. If the sales person is good at what he does then in most cases he will accept commission of the salary because of the potential to receive more money for job performance.

A sales force manager needs to have information in order to decide to create a custom motivator program or purchase one offered by a consulting firm. What are the dilemmas the manager faces in selecting either of these alternatives?...
