Ch41 case study--- How Many Ways Can I Defraud You? 

In this case study the person who was committing the fraud didn’t do anything out of necessity. They committed the fraud because they were addicted to the fact that they could get away with it. They never really cared whether they were going to get caught they only really cared about the advancement and the thrill of being able to get away with so much money. Manipulation was the whole game surrounding this persons achievements. Tony was considered a sociopath and was used to being able to get his way due to his wealth already he never had the need to make money just the understanding to maintain his social standings and he didn’t care how it affected others no matter what the cost.

This was not Tony’s first attempt at committing fraud or trying to fraudulently impersonate someone who could do the job he was looking for. He falsified the fact that he graduated from college, altered his social security number on applications, changed his age, he got caught with several of the jobs that he applied for and then he got smart he started coning others into vouching for him and lying to his future employers to make things look better than they really are. He as very good at convincing people he was the right guy for the job. By having his friend Joe lie for him by creating a false company he was able to back up his references and secured his position as a manager of a council. This gave tony a great amount of responsibility and not really being prepared or educated enough to handle this he brought in his friend to help him cover up his lie.

Tony became very good at his job because he could continue to convince people that he was trust worthy and he was doing his job just well enough that people didn’t notice. The only person that had to approve his work was the CEO of the council and by becoming friendly and charming he was able to reassure the CEO that he was the guy...
