The Internet should be more tightly controlled by governments

Over the past few decades the Internet has become the fastest and the most convenient way of sending and receiving information. In some countries governments have realised its power and now they are making attempts to take control of the Net, while in others internet is still considered a neutral playground. The key question is should the internet be regulated or not?

On one hand, the Internet needs censorship, since many adult sites are readily accessible to children. The Internet should be treated like a public place and should be policed accordingly. Also, the anonymity, which the Internet provides, is used by criminals for selling such illegal thins as drugs or credit card details or weapons.

On other hand, censoring the Internet would take away from freedom of expression. Free internet is vitally important for bloggers and journalists to publish investigations and other researches which may involve politicians or government (it is clear, that authorities would try to stop such activity). Moreover, we already have laws, which forbid racism, prohibit fraud etc. So, there is no reason for making up special rules for the Internet.

In conclusion, the Internet gives us an opportunity to spread our ideas without any borders. It doesn’t matter, what is the colour of your skin or how old you are. While the Internet is uncensored, your thoughts will have as much rights as everything else. I believe that unregulated internet guarantee free speech – a basic human right.
