A STUDY OF HOT FIX RHINESTONES

IN TEXTILE MATERIALS AND

THE QUALITY REQUIRMENT

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Study

“Rhinestones and other bling, decorative embellishments help the brand stand out, which increases awareness.” said by Rohde, vice president of Rohde Royce [Rohde, (2010)]. Rhinestones are a good idea to replace diamonds and other costly ornaments that glitter. It can let products become more elegant and high end. Therefore many fashion designers use rhinestones to decorate jeans, T-shirt and underwear (as shown in figure 1.1). Hot fix rhinestones have a lot of variety in shape and color which are using hot fix glue at the back to adhere in the products (figure 1.2 shows the hot fix glue at the back of rhinestones).

Although hot fix rhinestones become popular among in apparel products, customer always feel disappointed that the stones were peel off after several washing cycles. Therefore, customers would like to buy high quality of rhinestones products and let the peel off situation minimize. However there is a query on the general standard of the rhinestones quality in apparel products. It is no consistency quality standard of the rhinestones in manufacturing industry. This project aims to find out the optimal of rhinestones setting and set up a clear guideline for consumers to choose quality garments.

1.2 Objectives

The project aims at studying the quality requirements of hot fix rhinestones in textile material, the main objectives are listed below:

(1) To study the common types of the adhesive method and the existing quality requirements of hot fix rhinestones.

(2) To investigate the optimal parameters such as temperature, time and pressure of adhering hot fix rhinestones on three different types of fabric.

(3) To study the correlation between fabrics compositions and...
