Week 4 Assignment

Question 1: How do you think a small margin for error affects communication on a project?

When there is such a small margin of error it can dramatically effect communication. In the Ball Corporation there cannot be any errors, because of this all of the employees have to be very detailed on sharing information and completing assignments. With even the slightest error there could cause very severe changes to the project.

Question 2: In what ways do you act differently in a face-to-face meeting than you during a telephone conference call?

A face-to-face meeting is very different from a telephone conference call. Telephone conference calls are becoming more popular because it cuts down time and money for the company, and employees do not have to travel. When you are in a telephone conference you are not forced to get dressed up, or even act professional because no one can see you, you can still be apart of the conference while you are in your pajamas and no one would care or even know.

Question 3: Why is written communication essential in some situations, while oral communication is essential in others?

Written communication is essential in some situations in order to give more detailed and help the person reading to better understand it and look at it in the future for a reference. Even NASA uses written specifications for their mission objectives because it is such detailed specifications. But sometimes oral communication is needed, is can be more personable, easier to follow along, and allows reviewing all the information at the end.

Question 4: What listening hurdles do you find yourself facing as you listen to others? How do you handle it when you believe someone you’re speaking to is not hearing what you say?
