History and survival of Jakel Trading

Jakel Trading was founded by Mohamed Jakel bin Ahmad on 1983 in Muar, Johor. In the early days Jakel starts of its business as a wholesale supplier to small retailers in Muar town.

In 1985 Jakel opened their first branch in Segamat, Johor with the investment of RM 500.00, Jakel expands its operations through retail trading and supplying textiles to both government and private agencies. With the combination of business acumen and sound management Jakel group successfully survive the 1997 economic downturn and grow stronger.

The Jakel Group create a great change in local entrepreneurship which once monopolized by foreigners which is now led by bumiputera entrepreneurs . Thus, Jakel has firmly established its premium position at the forefront of the local textile industry.

With the goal of ‘One Branch, One State’, Jakel now has 19 branches all over the country with the newest being in Alor Setar, Kedah to provide the best quality fabric selections and fulfill the needs and desires of the discerning Malaysian public.

And now, Jakel has finally arrived at the heart of the nation’s capital city. The opening of a stunning six-storey Textile Gallery with seven lots at Jalan Bunus off Jalan Masjid India, as well as the arrival of the six-storey Jakel Shah Alam with five lots and 80,000 square feet of premium retail space, has established Jakel as the chief promoter of the Bumiputera textile industry in Malaysia.
