Introduction

1. of people having homosexual tendency. LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) is a controversial issue in many countries. In Hong Kong, there are insufficient supports to same-sex couples. Vast majority have cognitive deficits about the gays and lesbians. There are few mainstream social organizations involved in homosexuality aspect (Chinese University Student Press, 2010). Same-sex couples still have not been widely recognized in Hong Kong. For example in the workplace, there are only few companies providing equal benefit (such as medical coverage, right to take bereavement leave) to their homosexual and heterosexual staff. However, countries like United State and Britain that they have already provided many comprehensive guidelines to protect homosexual staff (South China Morning Post, 2010). The government claims that the welfare exclusion of same-sex couples is based on the lack of legal status in Hong Kong. However, it shows that there are less favorable treatments for same-sex couples.

2. With the changing of society, we should show more concerns and give them more protection. In our point of view, the Hong Kong government should legalize same-sex marriage in consideration of dignity & respect, equal rights and stability of society.

3. The first reason why same-sex marriage should be legalized is that they deserve dignity and respect.

4. Dignity is an innate right of a human being. The American Convention on Human Rights (1969) stated that “Everyone has the right to have his honor respected and his dignity recognized”.
