Dieting, defined as to limit and carefully select food intakes for a healthier body size, has become an important topic in the society nowadays. Compared to the conventional weight loss program, intuitive eating approach seems to be more effective. Therefore in this paper, I will be defending the statement “The intuitive eating approach achieves beneficial psychological effects and improved eating behaviors and when compared to conventional weight reduction programs, better long term weight reduction.”

Studies have found that Intuitive eating (IE) has a more effective result than other weight loss programs. As a method of dieting, intuitive eating focuses on individual’s mentality to diet. Not just to focus on the size and shape of the body, but to emphasis more on the overall healthiness of an individual. (Anglin JC. 2012) Many researches supported the implementation of such program as it is more sustainable in the long term. An experiment conducted by Bacon L and his colleagues has reached a conclusion that IE help obese women develop a healthier behaviour change in the long term, and raise the awareness to their own health risk. (Bacon L, 2005) Also, Cole RE in his paper argued that such approach positively affect an individual’s behaviour towards a healthier control. It can also take advantage of the extended support system, which increase the effectiveness of the diet. (Cole RE. 2010) Not only the benefit of long term diet, IE is also found to maintain a more positive attitude towards dieting than conventional diet program, which keeps individuals under diet condition with pressure. (Crerand CE, 2007) In these cases, IE is shown to have a more positive results and is more effective in the long run.

The attitude of an individual towards dieting has found to have a significant impact on the effectiveness of dieting. Many people seek for immediate result from dieting and gave up easily when result is not obvious in a short period of time. A sensory-based...
