1. Consider an organization that you believe does not conduct adequate strategic IS planning. List at least six reasons why this type of planning is not done appropriately (or is not done at all). Are these reasons justifiable? What are the implications of this inadequate strategic IS planning? What limits, problems, weaknesses, and barriers might this present?

Ans.

1. Expensive Information Systems: The cost of information systems has risen steadily and approaches 40% of total expenses in some organizations.

2. Lack of cross-organizational apps: Many systems can’t handle the applications having cross-organizational boundaries.

3. Systems not addressing critical problems: Many systems often do not address the critical problems of the business as a whole or support strategic applications.

4. Data redundancy: More often, the data is redundant.

5. Lack of data quality: Quality of data is also compromised.

6. Expensive System Maintenance: System maintenance costs are too high.

7. Long application backlogs: App backlogs are extended to 3 or more years, forcing the end users to have their own systems.

On the other hand, too much SISP would require too much time. As a result, the alterations in the internal organizational environment, emerging information technology and the competitive...
