History:

The history of Avon is quite important because it is what got them to where they are today. Avon was created in New York City, NY and the Head Quarters still resign there. The company was founded in 1886. Shockingly the company was founded by a man, David H. McConnell. When Avon was originally founded, McConnell had intended for it to be a book company since he was a book salesman. However, later on down the road he realized that his female customers were much more interested in perfume samples he offered then the new Edgar Allen Poe novel. Soon he came up with the brilliant idea to recruit female sale representatives since they would be able to network the market and target other women. Since the women sat at home all day waiting for their husbands to get home from work, they took the opportunity to get out there and make something of themselves. Since there were so little options for women in the work industry, Avon gave many women the option they didn’t think they had. This built up quite a bit of empowerment for women. This gave them the idea to start become dependent on them then dependent on the man in the family. McConnell made a revolutionary business because he saw a need in the world and filled it. Instead of offering yet another job to men, he opened it up for women only. This gave struggling mothers the opportunity to make money for their family. Over the years this has benefited the company because women felt empowered when working for Avon or even just wearing there products.

Product Lines:

At first when the company was first getting started, they only sold perfume samples. Later on throughout the years they began to sell larger quantities of perfume. Now they have begun to sell anything from foundation to eye shadow to skin care. They recently began to sell clothing to the men, women, and children in America.
