The reason why this research is important is because cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of people right now and the experimenters prove through the results of their study that it is possible to lower the risk of people suffering from cardiovascular disease if they consume more whole grain foods in their daily dietary food intake. The objective of this study was to monitor and analyze a large group of healthy middle aged and to assess the effects that three portions of whole grain products daily can have on ones cardiovascular health in a relatively high risk individual. It the experimenters can effectively make people of society understand that there is great importance of consuming whole grains products, and reducing refined cereals and white breads there will be great advantageous benefits to individuals health, and society as well. If people consume more whole grain products they can save their lives by preventing heart attacks and cardiovascular difficulties. This in essence will save them money if they have to pay for their own heart surgeries, and depending on the health care system of a country it can save the country and province money a well . The experimenters hypothesise that whole grains products can lower the risk of attaining cardiovascular disease.

The participants were made up of 40-65 years old men and women who had a BMI between 18.5 and 36. Individuals who displayed signs of metabolic syndrome and or moderate hypercholesterolemia were chosen, and as well as sedentary or moderately active individuals. There were a total of 206 participants who completed the intervention. There was a control group-refined cereals and white bread, a wheat group, and a wheat oats group.
