INTRODUCTION

Optical Distortion Inc. is a small new company, with a cash asset of $200,000 and a patent for an innovative new product which is contact lens that is designed to impair the eyesight of chickens. Chickens that have their eyesight impair by lenses instead of debeaking tends to eat more efficiently and also survive longer as they are less aggressive and an additional bonus for impair eyesight chicken is that they lay more eggs.

Company Background

1966, Mr Robert D. Garrison(designer) working with Mr Ronald Olson(farmer) and Mr James Arnold(a businessmen) established the Optical Distortion, Inc. 1968, there are problem of retention in chickens’ eyes is solved, and in December,1969, a United States patent for the lenses was issued. 1974, Daniel Garrison(Robert ‘s son) obtained a long license from new plastic world for the exclusive use in non-human application. At the same time, Daniel was bought 25% of the ODI stocks and was elected president and chief executive .Mr Ronald Olson became vice president of marketing.

Q1 POULTRY INDUSTRY

In 1915, U.S. poultry enterprise was found on most farms and in the yards of many homes of rural and small town families, and that eggs production was in the family barnyard. In the 1930s and 1940s, in order to improve the efficiency of production, farmers decided to use henhouses, in the 1950s there was a bigger concentration of the poultry industry with the use of cages. In the mid-1970s there were 2.5 million of birds in U.S. part of California, North Carolina and Georgia accounted for 25 percent of the total amount of U.S. chickens. After 1975, the U.S. poultry industry is estimated to serve many markets and will become the largest/second egg exporter in the world. By looking at all this points of poultry industry growing in the states, if Optical Distortion, Inc. can prove their product to be useful their product will be widely used by poultry.
