Wet drum separators are used in magnetic media recovery, purification of solids carried in liquid suspension, and iron ore concentration. Stearns has developed a specific line of wet drum separators for handling slurries developed in heavy media plants. Magnetic separators which recover magnetics contained in feed slurries as efficiently as possible, to reduce the per ton / media consumption of treated product to a minimum. The magnetic field attracts and holds tramp iron beyond the discharge of the cleaned product flow. Tramp iron is then released into a separate discharge as it leaves the magnetic field.

Recovery of magnetic solids in as clean a magnetic concentrate as possible, to keep the separating bath at a low viscosity and to eliminate misplaced product. The capacities shown apply to the separation of normal tramp iron from free-flowing, granular materials. To determine the width of separator required, follow the line in the chart closest to the known capacity (in cubic feet per hour), to the right to the intersection of the diagonal lines representing the drum diameters.
