Cold War
When the term war is used, what comes to mind is normally two or more sides fighting
to the death for power, religion, as well as for many other reasons. One of the most prominent
ideologies that are thought of in connection with war is the term bloodbath. Gore everywhere as
people fight using weapons and military tactics. However, during the Cold War people were not
physical fighting and defending their nation. Instead it was a war fought amongst the mind and
had a greater effect on people as it included and infected everyone with fear. The weapons used
for the Cold War were controlled by a group of people but if used wrong could greatly affect two
nations. By incorporating specific events from the Cold war as well as three perspectives, this
will give a better understanding of the impact that the Cold War had over American society.
The two major players in the Cold War were the United States and the Soviet Union. It
began with the expansion of communism that the Soviet Union was pressing on other countries.
The United States feared that the communist expansion would eventually be able to over power
there own government. With this new information the United States decide to create a policy
known as containment. The goal for containment was to stop the spread of communism. This
lead to strong tensions between the two nation as well as all the other nations involved. Which
lead to the Truman Doctrine that accepted the idea of a Cold War. “But not until March 1947, in
a speech announcing what came to be known as the Truman Doctrine, did the president officially
embrace the Cold War as the foundation of American Foreign policy and describe it as a
