Speed - the rate of motion. (Scalar Quantity)

Formula:

Velocity - the rate of motion at a given direction. (Vector Quantity)

Formula:

Distance = velocity*time

Time = distance/velocity

Acceleration - a vector quantity that defined as the rate at which an object changes in velocity.

Free Fall (Acceleration due to Gravity)

- is the motion of any object.

- Example of a Rectilinear Motion. (Free Fall Objects= 9.8 m/s2 or 32 ft/s2)

Isaac Newton's Three Laws of Motion

· Law of Inertia - the body at rest will stay at rest and a body in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an external/unbalanced force.

· Law of Acceleration - the net force of an object is equal to the product of its mass and acceleration. (Units: Newton, Dyne)

Force = (Mass)(Acceleration)

Mass = Force/Acceleration

Acceleration = Force/Mass

· Law of Interaction - For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Momentum - the product of mass and velocity. (Vector Quantity) Units: kg m/s or g cm/s

p = momentum

m = Mass

v = Velocity

Formula:

p = mv (mass*velocity)

m = p/v (momentum/velocity)

v = p/m (momentum/mass)

Impulse - change in momentum

Δp or J = change in momentum or impulse

F = force

t = time

Momentum - Impulse Theorem

FΔt = Δmv

Work - is the product of the force and the distance through which it acts. (Scalar Quantity)

Units: Dyne-cm or erg, Newton-meter or Joule, Feet-pound or ft-lb

or W = Fd cos Ɵ

Power - the rate of which work is done. (1 watt = 1 Joule of work)

Power (P) = W/t (Work/time)

Energy - is the capacity to do work.

TWO BASIC FORMS OF ENERGY

1. Potential Energy - enery due to its position.

2. Kinetic Energy - energy due to motion.

Work - Energy Theorem

Fd = mgh (PE)

Fd = 1/2 mv2 (KE)

*Take Note: W or Fd (Work) = TME (Total Mechanical Energy)

Fd = mgh + 1/2 mv2

Efficiency of Machines - work output divided by work input...
