Does True Love Exist?

Learning to Love Again

"I love you." These three little words are the most powerful that you can make to another person. We as humans have a desire to look for intimate affection that a significant other can provide. Some people dream of finding their Prince Charming to sweep them off their feet. Some people look for love that sets their hearts on fire. Should love be thrown around without a second thought? Is the word Love overused? When has the word love been replaced with the word lust? True love does it even exist that is the quest. The theme of this quest is "learning to love again" with poems from artists with their thoughts.

Today I will be discussing with you my anthology on learning to love again, my target audience is those that lost love and are looking for it again. I am going to base this on my four literary selections from "To My Dear and Loving Husband" by Anne Bradstreet. "True Love" by Wislawa Szymborska, Shakespeare "Sonnet 116" This is more about what love is not and can be construed as a negative view on love and finally, "Edna St. Vincent Millay's Lost Love". The discussion will be based on of these poems to find finally out if there is such a thing as true love.

"To My Dear and Loving Husband" by Anne Bradstreet

Anne Bradstreet wrote a poem called “To My Dear and Loving Husband,” during the time this may not have been the easiest thing to write for her. She lived a Puritan life in Boston during the year of 1678; this time was extremely unacceptable for a woman and a woman to discuss her feelings openly. Woman of this age who used their charm or intelligence would find themselves banished, or executed by the Colony’s group of male leaders. According to the biography of Anne Bradstreet the woman’s domain was strictly to be in the home, and she was to have no business in the affairs of church and state.
