As a young girl I had someone I looked up to and admired, that someone was my aunt. She always looked after me and took care of me when my mother was at work. At the age of ten something terrible happened we were at home and she started to show symptoms of what turned out to be a brain hemorrhage, and from this day forward my life changed.

It started off spending sleepless nights in the hospital we did not know what to expect; she was in a complete coma. We had to do everything for her from bolus feedings to giving her baths and her medicines. It was a scary experience when I had to give her medicine’s, I had to make sure it was the right amount at the right time. The food and her medication were given through g-tube. I always questioned myself and wondered, "am I doing everything possible to improve her health?" This was an everyday process, She went from hospitals to nursing homes then she finally came home. Doctors gave her weeks but she lasted four years.

As such a young child I expected that all of our hard work would pay off. I had high expectations for her I thought that one day we'd be able to pick up where we left off. My high expectations led to disappointments as weeks led to years and I saw little to no improvement, as the years went on I learned more about illnesses. Due to this traumatic experience I am now interested to further improve peoples health. Not only has this made me interested in the medical field it has also made me realize how many people in the world need help. As everyday passed i grew to love learning new things involving medicines and how much they can improve a persons health.
