Psychology Documentary Assignment

1. Find an Educational Documentary (from a reputable source) that reports research on a psychological topic covered in the text.  The film/episode must cover one of the following topics (chapters):

* Consciousness (Chapter 5)- Examples: Sleep, Drugs, Hypnosis

* Lifespan (child and adult) development (Chapters 9 & 10) - Examples: Sex & Gender, Infancy, Prenatal Development, Aging, Parenting , Morality Development

* Motivation/emotion (Chapter 11) - Examples: Sexuality, Lie detection, Culture & Emotion

* Personality (Chapter 12)- Examples: Humanistic Psychology, Personality Assessment, Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory

* Mental health therapy (Chapter 14)- Examples: REBT, Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive-behavioral therapy, ECT, Psychosurgery

You can find quality documentaries via: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, or YouTube

The film/episode needs to be at least 40 minutes in duration.

2. Write a summary of the documentary in your own words (no more than 4 typed, double-spaced pages).  In your summary SEPARETLY answer the following questions, in this order:

1. What was the film about? Explain the topic covered and how the film analyzed the core material (interviews, conducted research, reviewed research, etc…). (1 page)

2. Briefly review the film, was it effective? Why or why not? (1/2 page)

3. List, in detail, 5 facts that you learned from the film (in bullet point format). (1-2 pages)

* You should do research and fact check.

4. Conduct further research on the topic covered in the film and summarize a fact (e.g., a theory, a research study, a concept, a phenomena, etc…) that was not examined in the film but could have been. In other words, what information would you add to the film, either as an update, extension or addition of information? (1/2 page)
