Who is to blame? Cover Memo: I chose this topic because food and my weight has had a big impact on my life, especially the last couple of years. I went through high school overweight, and I saw from my peers that my weight was unacceptable for societies standards by their teasing and remarks. I started with an extreme crash diet and vigorous exercising which led me to lose 5 pounds. Soon 5 turned to twenty, and the addiction started to show that I was truly obsessed with my weight. The addiction can establish a grip on its victim and never let go, but luckily I did not get caught in the cycle of death. When researching the topic, it surprised me how many causes the medical field have identified. I also found it challenging when looking for a fine arts source, the pictures were so horrifying because they were not photoshopped that skinny, and it looked so unreal and unhealthy. When revising the paper, I really focused on my ending paragraph. I really wanted the reader to walk away with a purpose to change and not discriminate someone based on their size, I wanted people to now that it is what is on the inside that counts.

As Kate Moss said, “food never tastes as good as skinny feels” (Shields) and with that, it starts the cycle. Society today is creating monsters when it comes to the younger generations. They are creating a generation that is completely wrapped up in their appearance and how low their weight is, a generation that is wrapping itself in a veil of eating disorders . An eating disorder is defined as “extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding weight and food issues” (National). Society is a broad topic, so what is really causing people to contract the disorder; the media, family aspects, depression and other disorders, or being bullied?
