Executive Summary

GE Capital is the financial wing of the American conglomerate General Electric. It was founded to provide support for its industrial businesses. It later grew to provide financial services to it customers like credit cards and capital for real estate, healthcare and aviation industries. It is a vast company with total assets on the north side of half a trillion dollars and over 47,000 employees worldwide. With the aftermath of the 2008 credit crisis, GE Capital suffered a lot this led its conglomerate GE to decide to downsize GE Capital to at least 30% of the total earnings. This is because prior to the crisis GE Capital formed the highest percentage of the conglomerate and when the crisis hit it almost took down the entire conglomerate down with it. Now the conglomerate has decided to build up its industrial division. However, GE Capital has decided to grow and concentrate on the mid market financing. The company is growing steadily and when compared with the best in the banking industry it shows great health with $530 billion total assets. In search of growth in the digital world, the 130 year old company has decided to leverage social media. This it has done in two ways. One is internal where social media is utilized to create collaboration and teamwork within the company and two, to interact with its customers to create a strong customer base and increase its total assets and strength within the market.

The company has come a long way in its 130 years of existence and is still continuing to grow in stature. It is a true testament of resilience in the banking industry.
