The Offensive Actions of a Tank Platoon

In a tank platoon offensive tasks are conducted to defeat and destroy enemy forces. They are used to seize terrain, resources, and population centers. More specifically, To deprive the enemy of resources, deceive or diver the enemy, develop intelligence, or hold an enemy in position. Basically if we're in combat and the enemy didn't initiate the conflict, we're there to fuck them up and take them out. Offensive tasks have four characteristics, surprise, concentration, tempo, and audacity. These four things are what helps an offensive task to succeed.

Surprise is achieved by attacking the enemy at a time or place he does not expect or in a manner for which he is unprepared. Platoons achieve surprise by following operational security procedures and making the best possible use of vehicle speed, covered and concealed routes, vehicle optics, firepower, and stand-off capabilities during tactical movement. Concentration is the massing of overwhelming effects of combat power to achieve a single purpose. Platoons achieve concentration by massing the effects of their weapon systems without necessarily massing platoon vehicles at a single location.Tempo is the relative speed and rhythm of military operations over time with respect to the enemy. The platoon leader must understand the different rates of speed when comparing dismounted forces to mounted forces. He must ensure that his platoon’s movement is synchronized with the movement of other maneuver and sustainment elements involved in the operation to maintain the proper tempo to support the commander’s scheme of maneuver.Audacity is a simple plan of action, boldly executed. Audacity inspires Soldiers to overcome adversity and danger. At the platoon level, audacity is marked by violent execution of the mission and a willingness to seize the initiative. The PL must have knowledge of the commander’s intent two levels up. This allows him to take advantage of battlefield opportunities whenever they present themselves....
