Executive Summary

The facts about pregnancy discrimination are that three-quarters of women entering the workforce will be pregnant and employed at some point, and most pregnant women are in the workforce. Among all women who had a child in 2011, sixty-two percent of them were active in the workforce. Discrimination against pregnant workers in the past ten years has risen thirty-five percent. Employers need to provide the same treatment to pregnant workers as they do to workers with disabilities.

In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was signed into law. “Title VII of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 is a federal law that prohibits employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, and religion”. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act also created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
