Determination saves someone’s life.

Determination is the skill to strive to get things done on time accordingly. When someone is determined to do something no matter how difficult it is, he/she has an inner drive to reach goals. There is determination behind many achievers and successful person in any endeavor.

It was winter and was raining all night and morning; all the health center staff were preparing themselves for the regular busy day work. Some were discussing how the cold weather makes them squeezed, and they are waiting patients to come. All of the sudden, the center filled up with men carrying a laboring mother sleeping on a locally made emergency bed. Some of them were screaming ‘’Emaye’’ a local word to say mom, and bunch of tears were dropping from a young man’s face, could you save my mom? with a sobbing voice; the young man asked from behind. I didn’t throw a word to him, but my heart was so touched inside. He again asked me the same question with inept voice. I rushed to the Outpatient department to check the sick laboring mother. Her husband, Bashir, explained me she had started laboring or having pushing down pain 3 days ago and seen no progress ever since. She stopped responding while they were on the way to the health center. As a primary health care provider, I checked all of her vital signs and physical examinations; all suggested, she was in critical condition. Her full term fetus was dead inside, the lab investigation and patient’s sign and symptoms indicated; she was in septic shock. I did all the needed treatment expected from a primary health care provider, and referred her to regional hospital for emergency surgery.

The health center was located in a remote rural area of Africa, where basic infrastructure was limited. It was around 80 miles from the city referral hospital.
