Hunting Magazines: Is There a Point to Them?
People love to participate in hunting adventures. It is a growing hobby for many. “Last year 13 million individuals—as young as 16 years old—participated in hunting as an "activity", a sport, and/or as a profession. Their total expenses amounted to $22.9 billion. It's no surprise that magazines and journals target this industry” (“Top Ten Ways” 1). It is no surprise either that writers in this industry are being sought after because their writing is read more on a daily basis, especially since the big hit TV show “Duck Dynasty” put hunting in the forefront of American culture. Hunting magazines are now written for many different purposes such as writing for entertainment through personal narratives, for understanding conservation methods, and for learning equipment uses; therefore, these detailed analysis of these different topics have specific audiences who reads these articles religiously to learn specifics about the information in the writings.
Entertainment Narrative Writing
When we look at entertainment narrative writing in the hunting articles, they stand out as outdoor adventure stories. While they are very entertaining and can get the heart beating quickly out of anticipation, they also tell a story of a hunter’s experience. When we take a deeper look at the purpose of these articles, we see there is much more to them than just entertainment. This type of writing can hook a person into hunting, and they are a huge reason why the number of hunters is increasing dramatically. People who read these stories learn about the excitements and anticipation that hunting brings. Another thing this type of writing can do is teach the hunter.
