In the case study of Public Safety Officer Jane Roberts she is an attractive young female. She finished in the top ten percent of her class from both the police and fire academy. Officer Roberts is good at handling herself in the field and with her male counterparts due to her no nonsense demeanor and has just finished her six-month training. While performing her field training, her supervisor Sgt. Williams assigned her to work with Field Training Officer Tibbetts. FTO Tibbetts is a known “ladies man”, but Sgt. Williams feels that because FTO Tibbetts is married and PSO Roberts has done well handling herself in previous situation that she will be ok during her assignment. Sgt. Williams does notice an overly friendly bond between FTO Tibbetts and PSO Roberts, he hears rumors of them kissing in the parking lot and intervened in an argument that sounded like a lovers quarrel but decides after questioning both parties if things were ok it’s none of his business as long as they perform their jobs.

As a supervisor I feel that Sergeant Williams did not make a sound operational decision when he assigned PSO Roberts to FTO Tibbetts. According to our text, “good supervision is the result of the serious application of one’s knowledge about human behavior to the work situation”( Moore & ,2010, pg.11). As a supervisor he was knowledgeable to the fat that FTO Tibbetts had a reputations a ladies man and although in the past PSO Roberts has done well with handling other interactions with male counterparts as a new employee she may feel vulnerable or pressured especially because she was on probation.
