IS1233 RIZAL

1. How do Filipinos and Foreigners have paid tribute to Rizal?

The Filipinos paid tribute to Rizal by remembering his life and works. The Filipinos study the works of Rizal and make sure that the future generations will know his works and how he sacrificed his life for the Filipino people.

The Filipinos also celebrate his birthday and mourn his death day. We honor Rizal in a different way like the others.

The foreigners, on the other hand, paid tribute to Rizal by recognizing his thoughts and intelligence. They visit the Rizal Park which represents his bravery and courage.

They made him our national hero for what he did. He deserves it.

2. After having studied Rizal’s life and works and the development of the Philippine nationalism, what does Rizal mean to you?

Rizal is important, not just to me, but to all of the Filipino people. He is a brave man that risked his life for the Filipinos. He opened up the consciousness of the Filipinos to the oppression and exploitation they were suffering under the Spanish rule at the time. Rizal shaped the Nationalistic view of the Filipinos by opening up their mind on the Spanish mistreatments.

Rizal is our hero. He protected us in a different way than the other heroes did. He fought for liberty in a silent but powerful way. He voiced his love for the Philippines through his novels, essays and articles rather than through the use of force or aggression. He believed in nonviolent means of reform and wrote two novels that were instrumental in making Filipinos aware of their plight. He worked for independence and became a martyr when he died. He risked his life so that we Filipinos would be happy and safe.

But for me, Rizal is an exceptionally talented hero. When I read his works and novels, I learned a lot from his novels. He made me learn to be nationalistic when it comes to our country. He deserves to be our national hero and I...
