CHAPTER 1: The Significance of the Contraceptive Methods and the Study

1.1 Introduction

Bangladesh is a densely populated country. Though its vast population, Bangladesh has achieved significant progress in many areas including an increase in contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR), increase in literacy rate, decrease in mortality rate, reduce poverty rate, increase in family planning etc. Under the integrated part of population and development, national policies formulated. Strategies and programs for poverty reduction, reproductive health, and nutrition, and population sector have been developed.

Along with government, NGOs and private sector are also working with reproductive health. They are encouraged people about family planning, contraceptive using, and raise awareness among the people about their health. The contraceptive prevalence rate in Bangladesh has been increasing. The rate is now 61% among the married women (Source: PRB 2012 World Population Data Sheet). Using of modern method is increasing rapidly, namely, the pill and injectables.
