Abstract:

The traditional method of monitoring the patient in a hospital involves lot of manpower and sometimes it takes time to act upon according to the situation because of the flow of communication from a bedside nurse to physician who takes care of the patient’s health condition. This situation is due to the fact that physician has to depend on nurses to monitor the health condition of the patient. There is no access to the physician directly from the patient to know the vital sign and other parameter within real time.

After extensive research the above said problem can be solved by using body area networks, which is a kind of wireless medical network. The main problem with the traditional clinical monitoring involves manual continuous monitoring about the vital parameters of the patient. It involves lot of manpower, financial resources and there is a non- continuous flow of information between patient and the physician. This problem can be solved by using wireless medical sensor network.

Brief background of the company:

The organization that has chosen for current project is a small hospital where people suffering from different diseases treated. The treatment involves continuous monitoring of all patients vital signs such as oxygen saturation, heart rate, blood pressure, temperature etc by nurse. If the patient is in intensive care unit, all those parameters should be continuously monitored round the clock and abnormal changes should be noted and should be notified to the physician who is in charge of the particular patient and abnormal changes should be documented for patient medical records.
