Ethnographic Comparison of Korean and Ethiopia

Introduction

The two countries I chose to discuss is Ethiopia and Korea. Theses two countries have stark differences but similar in some ways. The human aspects of each culture that is discussed in this paper is there language, food and class structure. These apects of there culture are relevant because it speaks to the history of each culture and how the people of each culture try and hold on to their traditions. In addition, the aspects give you a sense of the diversity of each respeactable culture.

Ethiopia is one of East Africa’s most popular cultural destination. Filled with interesting historical sights, many isolated tribes, interesting religious festival and excellent mountains, Ethiopia is rich with history. The capital city is Addis Ababy and over seventy-three people live in Ethiopia. While Amharic is Ethiopia’s official language and widely spoken, others include, Arabic, Guaragigna, and Somali English is the major language taught in schools. Muslim is the dominant religion with fifty-percent while Ethiopian Orthodox is at forty percent. Ethiopia economy is based on agriculture and eight-five percent of the population is employed in the agriculture sector. However, this sector suffers from frequent drought and poor cultivation practices. Hailemariam Desalegn is the prime minister of Ethiopia and leads the ruling coalition Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front. He has been praised for revitalizing Ethiopia’s economy but faces criticism for his human rights record and his failure to allow a full democracy to flourish in Ethiopia. (Zenawi, 2012)
