Diversity means opportunity

Diversity in todays society is something that we have learned , and is used in today’s workforce. Having diversity in today’s workforce is very essential in having a successful company. When you have diversity, you have equality among your employees and higher up. Before the word Diversity, this used to be known as Affirmative Action, but not only was the name not really politically correct, the definition needed to be worked on in the workforce. Affirmative Action refers to policies that take factors including race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It also is taken action to increase the representation of women and minorities in area of employment.

As you can see, we have come a long way from Affirmative Action. The only institution that uses this type of employment practices is the US Military. They promote not only by need of slots in a particular jobs, but also by race and sex. You don’t see that going on in today’s workforce. Plus it is frowned upon.

Today’s employers hire based upon a persons education and experience in the job that they are applying for. Having diversity in today’s workforce is something that is so common these days its really not noticeable anymore. One of the many positives about having diversity in your company is the learning advantage to helping other people that are different then yourself. When you work with other people from different backgrounds and cultures, you learn to be equal and understanding other people as human beings coming from different backgrounds. The main thing about the United States is that we are all from different backgrounds and heritages. Some of us have Latin, European, African, and many more backgrounds. But we are all American and should be treated with respect. If you are brought up as a child learning respect for your fellow man or woman no matter what they look like, You will more then likely succeed in life. Just learning that you don’t hire...
