i. Open system from a hardware perspective is the interoperability and portability of the system hardware and the peripheral components of the system which does not limit the usage and any important manipulation of the hardware.

ii. Open software is a type of software designed and created in a way that allows users to edit, manipulate, alter, reuse and or contribute to its code or functionality to suit the needs of any specific member of the public and the user(s).

example; Linux operating system.

Creation of jobs and employment opportunities- the manufacturing process was previously done and open to large corporations only but now they are left also to smaller organizations and hence more job opportunities are created. Several small organizations can now create completely open electronic designs.

Idea creation- most of the free hardware projects are relatively simple in design and functionalities. Being created by a wide range of people means a lot of ideas collected which can be put together into development of a very efficient and more effective hardware designs. Example; the recent crowd of 3-D printers.

Open hardware licenses- hardware designs are often copyrighted or patented this protects the idea for sale by a different organization or persons. In case of any business and financial benefits only to owner of the idea merits.

Allows for more innovations- giving permission of modifications and improvements of particular hardware design leads to more experiences gained and hence better engineers will come up. This will mean better designs will continue to be innovated. All users will be going for the best designs and this will be of financial and loyalty benefit to the business organization.
