Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles

In Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the story is told from the point of view of Dr. Watson, friend and partner to Sherlock Holmes. The story picks up when Holmes and Watson are approached at their home on Baker St. by a man named Dr. Mortimer, who left a small clue earlier for Holmes to observe and know he was coming. Dr. Mortimer tells them of a wealthy and prominent family known as the Baskervilles, a family said to be haunted by a mysterious creature known only as the hound of the Baskervilles. Many believe that the previous holder of the Baskerville fortune and estate was killed by the hound, Dr. Mortimer however, thinks foul play was involved, and enlists the help of Holmes and Watson to investigate this matter and protect the new heir, Sir Henry Baskerville. Holmes sends Watson with Sir Henry to Baskerville Hall alone while he is working on other cases in London, but not long after their arrival to the estate, events quickly unfold, and Watson and Sir Henry are tested heavily as they gather information on the countryside and its people to relay back to Holmes. Soon though, as Watson is beginning to run out of options, Holmes shows up in secret, confirming previous suspicions and gathered evidence, pointing to Mr. Stapleton secretly being a Baskerville who tried to claim his fortune too late, this made him get rid of the previous holder and make an attempt on Sir Henrys’ life using the legend of the hound.
