Class or Mass Mini Case Study Analysis- Neptune Gourmet Seafood.

This team has come up with three possible solutions to the problem of excess inventory at Neptune Gourmet Seafood. The first solution is to sell the inventory to a government aided organization and run a joint charity where the inventory can be donated to the needy within the country or in third world countries. The second solution would be to create a new brand called “Neptune Silver” which would sell the inventory at a considerably lesser price compared to the “Neptune Gold” product. The third solution is to liquidate inventory and ask merchants to sell the inventory in bundles.

The first solution recommends a discounted sale of about 50% to a government aided organization and start a joint venture to donate this inventory within the country or to third world countries which are in need of nutritious food. This would not only help the company get rid of excess inventory but also ensures the company’s image improves globally. A global exposure of goodwill will also ensure recognition among the business elites which could result in better funding from the outside. This funding can be used for more advanced technologies in the future. However the drawback to this solution is a possible lack of funding from the government even if the campaign is a success in the initial stages. This solution could be effective in solving the inventory problem but at a cost, as 50% reduction in prices, not to mention the additional expenses of launching a campaign, will result in losses for the company.

The second solution that we are looking at is the option suggested by Rita Sanchez- Launch of a brand new product called Neptune Silver which would sell the same quality inventory as that of Neptune Gold but at half the price.
