Set and Settling Points

From what I have learned, set point theories are ideas that our weight stays stable and unchanged according to the requirements of our body. The set point theory we will consume what our bodies need to function. This specific theory does not deal with the issues like obesity disorders, which is why biopsychologists tend to lean more towards the settling point theory. Basically this theory states that the individual will only consume food when there is some sort of requirement that needs to be met for bodily function, and by doing so the individual maintains a constant body weight.

The settling point was founded from the idea of equilibrium. In accordance with the settling point theory, our bodies respond accordingly to find a balance when any changes have been made in our diets; consuming additional or fewer than normal. It is well thought that weight is determined not only by how much we eat and drink, but also by how our body utilizes the accessible energy in order to form equilibrium. Within the settling point theory, our bodies will regulate to any increase or reduction in calories that are taken in, which aids in the explanation of the problem of obesity or eating illnesses. {For example; anorexia.}

I agree more with the settling point model. I think that this model accounts for the weight fluctuations that individuals repeatedly face when changes to their diets happen.
