Have you ever imagined your life before you discovered media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat? Many of us could not fathom such technology let alone on a hand-held device. Most of us would hate to admit that we have created a dependency on the different forms of social media today. The past century gave birth to the electronic phase that then led to the informational phase, and it began with the television.

After the creation of television, a path was paved which led to computers, smart devices, and satellites. The birth of the digital era came to be from this path and is now the Internet. The Internet has given a form of unforeseen power to an everyday person without the need for a large corporation pushing their views and opinions.

Blogging has become more common. This commonality has caused television stations and professional publishers to no longer have complete control of the information that is given to the general public. Blogging has also opened the door to opinionated views reaching others in a negative impact as well as a positive one.

Social networking allows long distance friends, family, and co-workers to communicate with a simple click of a button. These developments have influenced American culture tremendously. These developments have made once important individuals such as teachers and storytellers less impactful and important.

With television came cable, then satellite such as DirecTV and Dish. Satellite television has brought on more channels to be available allowing people to view more and more. More viewable channels have been both beneficial and detrimental. Health shows and religious shows have helped to ensure healthy and happy living.
